Top 5 Indian Railway Stations Connecting to Foreign Countries in 2025

Top 5 Indian Railway Stations: India’s railway network isn’t just one of the largest in the world. It also reaches beyond national borders, linking the country to its neighbors. These international train routes play a vital role in boosting regional connectivity, trade, and tourism. As of 2025, here are five Indian railway stations that connect you to another country by train.

1. Kolkata to Bangladesh: Maitree & Bandhan Express
Kolkata acts as a major gateway to Bangladesh through two international trains: Maitree Express runs between Kolkata and Dhaka, offering a convenient and comfortable journey between the two capitals. Bandhan Express connects Kolkata to Khulna, a key city in southern Bangladesh. These trains are symbols of the strong historical and cultural ties shared between the two nations.

2. Attari to Pakistan: The Samjhauta Legacy
Located near the India-Pakistan border, Attari Railway Station once hosted the famous Samjhauta Express to Lahore. Though the service has been suspended in recent years due to diplomatic issues, Attari remains an important strategic and symbolic rail link, with hopes for future revival.

3. Raxaul to Nepal: India’s Trade Gateway
Raxaul Station in Bihar plays a key role in freight connectivity with Nepal. It links to Sirsiya near Birgunj, Nepal’s main inland port. Although there are no passenger trains currently, talks are ongoing to expand the service to travelers soon.

4. New Jalpaiguri to Dhaka: Mitali Express
Launched recently, the Mitali Express runs from New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal to Dhaka, Bangladesh. This train provides a major transport option for people from India’s Northeast and fosters deeper cross-border engagement.

5. Jogbani to Nepal: Emerging Cross-Border Corridor
Jogbani Station in Bihar connects with Biratnagar in Nepal. While the route is currently focused on freight transport, future plans include introducing passenger services to further improve regional accessibility.
