Assam Officer Nupur Bora: After police seized about Rs 2 crore in cash and jewelry from her homes, Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer Nupur Bora was taken into custody on Monday. Officials seized Rs 92 lakh in cash and jewelry worth almost Rs 1 crore from her Guwahati home and an additional Rs 10 lakh in cash from her Barpeta rental home during raids by the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell. Her apparent participation in controversial land problems has put her under surveillance for six months, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Investigations into the case are still ongoing.

Who is Nupur Bora Assam Civil Service officer?

Nupur Bora joined the ACS in 2019 and is currently an ACS officer. She was born in the Golaghat district of Assam on March 31, 1989. She was assigned to the Kamrup district’s Goroimari as a Circle Officer. She attended Cotton College and Gauhati University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature.

According to her Facebook profile, Nupur Bora was a lecturer at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) before entering the civil service. From March 2019 to June 2023, Nupur Bora served as the Assistant Commissioner in Karbi Anglong, where she started her administrative career. Later, starting in June 2023, she served as a Circle Officer in Barpeta before being sent to Kamrup.

Why is Nupur Bora arrested now?

Serving in the government for six years, Nupur Bora accumulated wealth far beyond her salary. This included properties and other assets. Her income and assets did not match her official earnings. Based on this, the Special Vigilance Cell raided her house and recovered a huge amount of cash and gold.
