She said the man approached her, carrying a trolley and backpacks, and started a conversation. He told her his UPI wasn’t working and asked if she had any cash, claiming he wanted to send money through UPI.
“I told him I didn’t have money right away since I was dubious, but he began to try to gain my trust by saying things like, ‘You’re from the same religion,’ ‘My cousin has the same name as you,’ etc. After initially seeming sincere, he asked for ₹5000 and said he would repay it in 30 minutes. The man hasn’t come back since, the Redditor added. “I’ve called and messaged him multiple times, no response,” he said.

“Please share if you have experienced something similar or if you have the CCTV or airport contact information I can use for this. I’m prepared to submit a police complaint and have his phone number and UPI information, but any leads from this forum would be very appreciated. This individual is obviously preying on those who appear kind or approachable, so please exercise caution if you’re passing through Chennai Airport,” she continued.

This scam could have been easily avoided considering all the red flags you mentioned.” Another user commented, “Rule number one: Never trust anyone. Be smart—no one will care about you anyway.”
