IRCTC Free Food:
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has introduced an incredible initiative aimed at providing free food to train passengers during unavoidable delays. This service is a much-needed relief, especially during long delays when passengers are left waiting for hours.
This service is not available on all trains. It is specifically offered on premium trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Duronto Express trains. If there is a delay of more than two hours in these trains, IRCTC ensures that passengers are served free food.
The free food service kicks in only when a train is delayed by two hours or more. A minor delay of just a few minutes doesn’t qualify for the free meal service. The food is provided when the train’s arrival time extends significantly beyond the scheduled arrival.
The type of food offered varies depending on the time of day. Here’s a breakdown:
Tea/Coffee Time: Tea/coffee and biscuits are provided.
Snacks/Evening Tea: Bread and fruit juices are served.
Lunch/Dinner: A more substantial meal is provided, which typically includes rice, dal, and other vegetarian options.
According to IRCTC, the goal is to reduce passenger discomfort caused by train delays. This service not only makes waiting more bearable but also emphasizes passenger satisfaction and convenience.
IRCTC has made significant improvements in the quality of food provided. New kitchens have been set up, and existing ones have been upgraded to ensure high standards of cleanliness and quality. Local train units have also been urged to improve food hygiene to guarantee a pleasant travel experience.
