Mukesh Ambani Gifts ₹151 Crore to ICT as ‘Guru Dakshina’

Mukesh Ambani Gifts: In a touching show of respect and gratitude, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, has made a donation of ₹151 crore to the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai in honour of his lifelong mentor Professor M.M. Sharma. Mukesh Ambani revealed the donation during the launch of Prof. Sharma’s biography, “The Divine Scientist.”

A Tribute to a Guiding Light
Professor Man Mohan Sharma, one of India’s most recognized chemical engineers. And Padma Vibhushan awardee, has had an exceptional impact on both Indian science and Mukesh Ambani’s life. Mukesh Ambani was an ICT student mentored by Prof. Sharma and credited his work with helping him find his own path of value and scientific approach. Ambani called Sharma a “Rashtra Guru” — a teacher wielding a national significance — and credited him with modulating the compass of industry and science in India.

One of India’s Largest Educational Donations
The donation of ₹151 crore represents one of the largest donations from an individual to an Indian educational institution. Mukesh Ambani referred to the grant as a Guru Dakshina — a traditional Indian token of respect from a disciple.

Ambani stated that the donation is unconditional; it is to be used for advanced research, infrastructure upgrades and scholarships to help ICT continue to lead in chemical engineering education and advancements.

Sustaining a Legacy of Excellence
Mukesh Ambani shared a strong connection with ICT over several decades. He received a chemical engineering degree from ICT where he started a career with Reliance Industries that evolved into a multinational business empire.

In 2015 Ambani was conferred an honorary Doctor of Science credential by ICT. This recent gesture represents the ongoing importance of educational mentorship and the importance of giving.
