Pakistan ceasefire violation: A routine night became a nightmarish nightmare of devastation for Jammu and Rajouri residents when Pakistan targeted them with indiscriminate mortar firing and drone shelling, taking the lives of seven innocent lives, including a high government official and two gallant security officials. More than 25 others were wounded, their homes destroyed, their lives transformed forever.
The Jammus woke up at 5 AM to staggering explosions, air raid sirens piercing the dawn silence. For those who lived on the peripheries, the nightmarish night had lasted for hours, each blast shaking their homes, each second spent in terror. The families hugged one another, chanting prayers, praying that the shelling would cease—but it didn’t.
Among the dead was Raj Kumar Thapa, Additional District Development Commissioner of Rajouri, a person who had devoted his whole life to his people. An artillery shell blew through his official bungalow, injuring him and his staff officials seriously. Though rushed to Government Medical College, he succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind grieving colleagues, heartbroken family members, and a community grieving.
“Yesterday, he was working day and night, accompanying the Deputy Chief Minister of the district, participating in the online meeting I had organized… Today, his residence was attacked. I do not have words to define this lose.”
Two officers, Subedar Major Pawan Kumar and BSF Sub-Inspector Mohammed Imteyaz. Gave up their lives while defending civilians and the country against Pakistan’s ruthlessness. The Indian Army struck back with unwavering determination, saying. “Pakistan’s audacious bid to violate India’s sovereignty and endanger civilians is unacceptable. We will scuttle all the plans of the enemy.” With tensions easing with a ceasefire agreement, the wounds remain—the ruined homes, the grieving families, and a nation that will never forget the fear of May 10.
