U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) officially nominated former President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2025 on June 24, 2025. The nomination recognizes Trump’s efforts in negotiating a historic Israel-Iran ceasefire–dubbed the “12-Day War”. A war that allegedly kept a nuclear weapon out of Iran’s hands. Trump earned Carter’s “extraordinary and historic role” in shutting down hostilities and facilitating regional stability. Why was Donald Trump Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize 2025?
Ceasefire Background
The ceasefire was announced by Donald Trump as of June 23‑24, 2025. This announcement was followed US-supported attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities after Israeli preemptive strikes. Israel and Iran both stopped military action temporarily, following closely behind Trump’s direct intervention and public call for de-escalation.
There were many theories that says Donald Trump is trying to be on news to be seen for the Noble peace prize. Due to the reactions of Nations, previously India and Pakistan and now, Iran and Israel after Trump announced ceasefire agreement between the nations. They clarified the news but Trump somehow managed to be on news for the same cause with different approach.
Though Trump’s nomination has given life to MAGA believers, the political motives of the same have been questioned by some. Media sources such as Intelligencer pointed out that Trump received and lost rival Peace Prize nominations. Simultaneously because another (by a Ukrainian MP) was retracted. The rival endorsements and rescinds highlight the politically charged nature of Nobel nominations.
Trump’s Ambitions and Skepticism
Donald Trump himself squashed hopes of a Nobel win, mentioning on Truth Social the Nobel Committee “only give it to liberals,” even as he had previously achieved diplomatic success in the form of the Abraham Accords. He stressed his expectations were based on larger peacemaking efforts—not merely a single agreement.

Historical Context
If Trump should prevail, he will become the third U.S. president to receive the Peace Prize—Republican Teddy Roosevelt (1906), Democrat Woodrow Wilson (1919), and Democrat Barack Obama (2009). But there’s doubt that the Nobel Committee would acknowledge Trump’s divisive style.
