Tinder Launches ‘Double Date’ Feature: Here’s How it Works

Tinder has introduced a new feature called Double Date, which lets users team up with a friend and match with other pairs on the app. The feature is already live in the US and select countries, and Tinder plans to roll it out more broadly in July. The company says it designed Double Date to make online dating feel more social and less pressured. By building on previous tools like Matchmaker and Share My Date, Tinder now adds a group dynamic to dating, allowing friends and family to play a role in the user’s dating experience.

Tinder New Features:
By selecting up to three friends to form a team with and tapping an icon on the main card stack, users can activate the feature. If either party likes the other group, they can then swipe through other pairs and match. A group chat starts after a match is found to help with discussions and possible meetings.

According to Tinder, the feature became popular during testing, especially with Gen Z members. People under the age of 29 made up over 90% of the profiles using Double Date. The platform claims that this group already makes up more than half of its user base worldwide and frequently favors less formal, cooperative dating encounters.

Preliminary data shows that Double Date drives higher engagement. Reports reveal that women who used the feature during testing liked paired profiles three times more often than individual ones. Participants in Double Date chats sent 35% more messages on average than those in typical one-on-one conversations. Additionally, the feature boosted user activity slightly, drawing in about 15% of participants who were either new or reactivated users. Tinder launched this revamp to match shifting online dating habits, particularly among younger users seeking more social and dynamic ways to connect.
