Kuberaa Movie Review: Is This Dhanush Next Big Hit or Miss?

Kuberaa Movie Review: With a new storyline that weaves street realism and financial conspiracy. Kuberaa has taken the big screens by storm, generating buzz for its compelling premise and star cast. Directed by Sekhar Kammula, this movie features Dhanush in a new avataar as a beggar who lands up becoming the face of a humongous ₹1 lakh crore scam. Also starring Nagarjuna and Jim Sarbh in important roles, Kuberaa delves into the space where wealth, power, and exploitation intersect. But does it pay off as a commercial and emotional ride? Let’s get into the review.

Story

The film’s core narrative arc takes place with Kubera (Dhanush), a street-smart homeless man who lives on the streets of the inner city and unwittingly gets drawn into a large money laundering scheme. While Kubera does not understand the consequences of getting involved, he is effectively being used as a figurehead for a shadow bank run by elites who have little concern for social ethics. The character played by Nagarjuna, as the morally ambiguous chartered accountant, exists in an area of moral twilight. Jim Sarbh, as the sinister money puppeteer, is a constant dread that exists in the margins of Kubera’s already strange predicament. The final struggle of the entertainment comes in the form of a battle of wills between the powerless and the powerful, once Kubera begins to wake up to the fraud going on around him.
Analysis

Sekhar Kammula gives his trademark sense of realism and emotional heft to an issue which is not a commonly addressed in Indian cinema. The film begins realistically but slowly builds momentum and focuses in on the disparity between classes and how the system exploits the weaker. Dhanush’s performance is one of great pathos—he captures the distress, confusion, and ultimate realization of a man that has been exploited by the public systems.

Technically, the movie is full of visual storytelling. Niketh Bommireddy’s camera work captures the grime of street life and the gloss of financial empires. Devi Sri Prasad’s music heightens the drama without dominating it.
