Akhanda 2 Review: The Balayya-Boyapati combo has always treated the audiences well with mass entertainers, and definitely, the expectations shot up for Akhanda 2, especially after the thunderous success of its first part. The film finally made it to theaters after a long production delay due to financial crises. So, let us check out this sequel completely.
Akhanda 2 continues from where the original one ended. Balamurali Krishna is an MLA now, while his daughter Janani, a very talented kid, is working at DRDO. Meanwhile, Akhanda Rudra Sikander Aghora becomes still stronger than before. The plot thickens when a Chinese general releases a lethal virus during the Maha Kumbh Mela. Janani finds the antidote for it, but there is a lot of political conspiracy that tries to bury it all, and her life is put in danger. The whole story will now revolve around how Akhanda protects Janani and makes the antidote reach the people.
Like most Boyapati Srinu films, this one usually requires suspension of logic at times. By that, it means that people have to throw scientific reasoning out of the window to enjoy the mass moments. Akhanda 2 has brought back for viewers an old formula, but in all probability, not even Boyapati’s directorial skills would have been able to put something different there nor Balayya’s performance.
A lengthy 2 hours and 45 minutes of the film deals only with the mission of the antidote and has highs here and there. The first half is long and slow, with introductions to the characters that continue for nearly 40 minutes. The first interval sequence is impressive, but the momentum drops sharply in the second half, leaving everyone slightly engaged.
Balayya offers, as usual, his intensity, but so many scenes give that déjà vu feel because of the repeated manner of dialogue delivery. Aadi Pinisetty makes excellent use of his limited screen time, while Samyukta’s presence gets us all excited with the Jaji Kaya song.
Technically, the movie is mixed. The music score also goes up and down; Splendidly loud during Akhanda’s introduction, but some portions sound distracting. The VFX work yields some cool set pieces while appearing underwhelming in others. Cuts could have been sharper to align with the narrative flow.
