Kannappa Movie Review: Can Prabhas Save Manchu Vishnu Fantasy Drama?

Kannappa Movie Review: Can Prabhas Save Manchu Vishnu Fantasy Drama?

Kannappa Movie Review: Can Prabhas Save Manchu Vishnu Fantasy Drama? Since the announcement of the Kannappa movie by the Manchu family, it was plagued with disbelief, trolls, and curiosity. But with the inclusion of superstars like Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, and Mohanlal, the buzz grew even more. The movie finally released as a mythological fantasy drama, but the million-dollar question is did it meet the expectations?

Plot Summary:

Thinnadu (Manchu Vishnu) is a hot-headed tribal warrior who does not believe in God. His father Nathanath (Sarath Kumar) is religious, however. Thinnadu is smitten with Princess Nemali (Preethi Mukundan) and the two get married. Disaster strikes when Thinnadu’s father is murdered in a fight against Kala Mukhu (Arpit Ranka), and he seeks revenge.

The story unfolds with interventions from the divine Rudra (Prabhas) intervenes and alters Thinnadu’s destiny. The story traces how Thinnadu becomes the legendary devotee Kannappa and builds towards an emotional high point with Lord Shiva.

Analysis:

The film tries to mix fantasy, devotion, and visual splendor but disappoints in the first half. The scenes prior to Prabhas’ arrival are slow. The romantic subplot between Vishnu and Preethi seems out of place in a devotional context. The film gathers pace in the second half, particularly with Rudra’s (Prabhas) powerful 20-minute screen presence and the emotionally charged climax.

Technical Aspects

Visual effects are a huge disappointment given the scale of the film. The CGI, particularly in battle scenes and even Shiva’s depiction, looks lackluster. The background music, however, aids the story during crucial moments, particularly during divine scenes.

Performances:

Prabhas lends weight to the film and charges up the second half.

Vishnu Manchu acts reasonably well, particularly in emotional scenes.

Akshay Kumar does a fine job as Shiva but suffers from bad dubbing and lip sync.

Mohanlal’s role is short but striking.

Preethi Mukundan brings the glamor, even if her character could have been downplayed to fit in the devotional tone of the film.

Final Verdict:

Kannappa is an erratic ride. While the movie falters in its first half, it makes up for it in the second part with divine drama and Prabhas’ strong presence. It might not be a classic, but Rudra Played by Prabhas definitely saves the day.
