Free Laptops for Students: No matter how much awareness is growing, no matter how much awareness is being created through the media and social media, cyber crimes are increasing day by day. They are being committed in various ways. Recently, such an incident has come to light.
A message claiming that the central government is providing free laptops to students is going viral on social media platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram. These messages are being sent to attract students and ask them to click on the link. If you click on it by mistake, it is your fault.
The real intention behind these messages is to steal personal information and empty bank accounts by clicking on those links. In this context, the central government responded immediately. The PIB Fact Check department clearly said, “This is fake news. The government is not giving free laptops to students.” The center has created awareness on this through the platform of X (former Twitter).
The government is advising people not to trust such offers and to check the information through official websites or news channels. If the center really introduces any scheme, the details related to it will be available on https://pib.gov.in or respective govt portals. No other links should be trusted except those.
Cybercriminals have targeted students this time. They have sent an attractive message saying, “We are providing free laptops to promote digital education.” They are sending a link asking them to enter their details for this.
If someone clicks on that link, the data on their phone could be hacked. In some cases, there is a possibility that other private details, including bank OTPs, could be leaked.
Experts say that there are certain things to remember to avoid falling victim to such cyber frauds. Under no circumstances should you click on unknown links. Fake offers should not be forwarded.
Information should be verified through PIB Fact Check or official platforms. Suspicious messages should be reported immediately to cybercrime.gov.in or the police.
