Apple promoted Sabih Khan, its senior vice president, to the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, replacing Jeff Williams, who leaves this month and retires later in the year.
Who is Mr. Sabih Khan?

Apple’s new COO, Sabih Khan, brings a strong foundation in both engineering and economics. He earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and completed his bachelor’s in economics and mechanical engineering at Tufts University.

Before joining Apple in 1995, Khan worked at GE Plastics as a key account technical leader and applications development engineer. Apple hired him into its procurement division, where he began shaping the company’s operations. In 2019, Apple promoted him to the executive team as senior vice president of operations. Over the past 30 years, Khan has played a pivotal role in overseeing Apple’s global supply chain. He has led key areas such as planning, procurement, production, logistics, product fulfillment, and quality control. He also spearheaded Apple’s supplier responsibility initiatives, focusing on improving working conditions and labor rights throughout Apple’s supply chain.

Although Apple stated that the leadership change was “part of a long-planned succession,” the iPhone manufacturer is currently under intense pressure from US President Donald Trump to manufacture phones domestically or risk tariff penalties if they do so in China and India.

Furthermore, since many people purchased the most recent iPhone 16 series in order to enjoy these unreleased features, the protracted delay in releasing a generative AI-enhanced Siri assistant has infuriated customers and even led to legal action against Apple. Given his expertise in supply chains, Mr. Khan will probably be expected to apply his prior training and credentials to address Apple’s current technology and market-based issues.

The CEO of Apple has commended Mr. Khan, highlighting his contributions to the company’s supply chain difficulties, environmental pledges, and manufacturing process.

Above all, Sabih leads with his heart and his values, and I know he will make an exceptional chief operating officer.”
