Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone is finally taking a more concrete shape, and it could launch as early as late 2026. According to noted supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple plans to use a custom crease-free display supplied by Samsung Display a potential game-changer in the foldable smartphone market.
The most surprising twist? Samsung may develop a bespoke foldable display exclusively for Apple, a panel that doesn’t even feature in its own flagship foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Despite using a metal support plate from Fine M-Tec, Samsung’s own foldables still show a noticeable crease.
This has led to speculation that Samsung Display’s solution for Apple is more advanced, possibly featuring a new internal design and stress-reduction layer. Apple’s version will reportedly include a custom metal plate engineered to disperse stress during repeated folding, virtually eliminating the crease issue.
Kuo reports the foldable iPhone will include a 7.8-inch inner screen and a 5.5-inch outer display. The device may sport dual rear cameras, a front-facing selfie camera, and a power button integrated with Touch ID marking a shift from the Face ID system used in current models.
Physically, the foldable is expected to measure 4.5mm when unfolded and around 9 to 9.5mm when folded. This makes it slightly thicker than Samsung’s Z Fold 7, but Apple appears more focused on durability and visual integrity than cutting thickness.

The crease has long been a visible weakness in all foldable phones. Apple seems determined to fix that. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is also prioritizing a precision-engineered hinge to support the crease-free goal.
