Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone maker, has confirmed that it will remove some phone models from its product offering in India. A SmartPrix report showed that Xiaomi will not launch its flagship Civi series phone in India in this year.
The Xiaomi 14 Civi was launched in India in June 2024 with a mid-range budget specifications and with an option for 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The phone did not gain the traction the sources were looking for, and that forced Xiaomi to change their direction.
The company has yet to confirm the plans, but commentators think that the decision comes out of Xiaomi’s plans to sell better-suited models to customers in India. The Xiaomi 14 Civi is currently listed at a price of Rupees Rs42,999, yet at the lower price, the 8GB RAM + 128GB model is selling at Rs36,999 and the expensive 12GB RAM + 512GB is selling at Rs38,999.
Exclusion of next Civi model from being launched will be detrimental to Xiaomi’s position in the mid-budget smartphone segment as the competition is intense.
Xiaomi will scale back on the Civi series, but its Redmi sub-brand is expected to introduce a new entry-level smartphone for the Indian market soon. Xiaomi’s decision to carry on the Civi series demonstrates its continued commitment to bringing products at affordable prices for Indian consumers.
The Xiaomi 15 Civi that was supposed to launch in India would have been a rebranding of the Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro that launched in the Chinese market in May 2025.
The Civi 5 Pro comes with fully loaded specifications including three 50MP cameras along with a 50MP front facing camera, a 1.5K resolution curved AMOLED display powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor with a 6000mAh battery and 67W fast charging.
The specifications shows that the phone would have had a considerable impact competing in the mid range smartphone space in India.
At this point in time other brands are also enhancing their offerings in the Indian market. Realme has launched two new starting level smartphones in the Realme 15 Pro and Realme 15 as part of its number series.
Realme also launched the new audio product Realme Buds T200 they added to its customer offerings. The market for smartphones in India continues to be very active that brands are always launching new products to meet consumers.
Xiaomi’s intention to potentially bypass the Civi series launch in India opens up a chance for it to re-strategize in the market. Xiaomi wants to remain competitive, and is instead focusing on Redmi budget phones along with other models which attract Indian consumers.
