Ben Stokes Becomes the Greatest Test All-Rounder with 7000 Runs and 200 Wickets

Ben Stokes Becomes the Greatest Test All-Rounder with 7000 Runs and 200 Wickets

Ben Stokes Joins Elite All-Rounder List with Historic Feat

On Day 3 of the fourth Test against India in Manchester, Ben Stokes reached a historic milestone, solidifying his place as the greatest all-rounder in Test cricket. With a brilliant six early in the day, Stokes surpassed the 7000-run mark, becoming only the third player in history to score 7000 runs and take 200 wickets in Test cricket. He now joins Sir Garfield Sobers and Jacques Kallis in this exclusive club.

A Record That Sets Him Apart

Stokes’ achievement places him at the pinnacle of all-rounder excellence. His previous milestone of taking 200 wickets, which he reached last year against the West Indies at Lord’s, showcased his impact with the ball. Together with his batting prowess, Stokes has now firmly etched his name as one of the game’s all-time greats. His five-wicket haul in this series further adds to his all-round credentials, limiting India to 358 runs in their first innings.

Ben Stokes Ends Two-Year Wait for Test Century

In addition to his historic achievement, Stokes’ century against India was also significant. It marked his first Test hundred in two years, with his last one coming during the Ashes in July 2023. The gritty knock came amid physical discomfort, as Stokes battled cramps, left the field briefly, and returned after Jamie Smith’s dismissal to continue his innings.

Joe Root Breaks Records in England’s Strong Position

Meanwhile, Joe Root also made headlines, surpassing legends like Rahul Dravid and Ricky Ponting to move to second on the all-time Test run-scorers list. Root’s knock of 150 helped him climb to 13,409 runs, with only Sachin Tendulkar ahead of him. His contribution, alongside Stokes’ century, has helped England build a dominant position in the ongoing Test.

England Eyes Series Win

England is now firmly in control of the series with a 2-1 lead, buoyed by Stokes’ all-round brilliance. Their only loss came at Edgbaston, where India triumphed by 336 runs. With key performances from Stokes and Root, England has a significant advantage heading into the final days of the Test.
