WhatsApp is a very popular messaging app around the world. People are using WhatsApp every day to send images, videos, GIF and documents. But these media files eat up phone storage fast! Many users are having a hard time manually deleting all these files from their gallery. Luckily, WhatsApp has the settings to do this to solve a simple problem quickly.
Android users can completely disable the auto-download with a few simple settings:
Open the WhatsApp app on your Android phone.
Tap the three dot menu and select Settings.
In the settings menu, tap Chats.
From the Chats menu, make certain Media Visibility is turned off, to ensure media is turned off.
Stop auto-download for specific chat or groups (Android)
Tap on the contact or group name at the top.
Scroll to Media Visibility and choose No.
Tap OK to confirm your selection.
Disable auto-download on iPhone
Open the WhatsApp app on your iPhone.
Tap on Settings in the bottom menu.
Tap on Chats.
Select off for Save to Photos.
Turn Off Downloads For Specific Chats or Groups (iPhone)
In case you want to keep auto-saving media from certain people or from certain groups:
Open the chat/group from WhatsApp.
Tap the contact or group name at the top.
Select Save to Photos.
Select Never from the options.

Turning off media auto-download will keep your phone clean and organized. This will save storage and time deleting files you are not ever going to use. If you make it a habit, your gallery will thank you!
