WhatsApp is developing a feature that will allow Android users to send motion photos with sound. This feature is currently being tested. According to WABetaInfo, motion photos were spotted in the WhatsApp beta edition for Android 2.25.22.29. Some beta testers may already have the feature.
Motion photos capture a few moments of video and audio before and after the photo is taken. This is a popular feature on a range of Android phones.
Samsung has named the feature Motion Photos, while Google Pixel phones call this feature Top Shot. WhatsApp is going to include this native phone feature into its chats.
Once users have access to the feature on WhatsApp, it adds a new play button icon in the image selection section when sharing images. You will be able to locate the icon in the top right corner.
Tapping on the play button icon will allow a user to send the image as a motion photo rather than a standard still image.
Motion photos sent via WhatsApp will include short video and audio clips immediately captured after the moment the image was taken.
Who Can Use It?
Only an Android phone that already supports capturing motion photos will be able to send motion photos via WhatsApp.
However, you will be able to view motion photos if it is sent to you from someone who has it, even if you cannot capture it yourself.
This update will also fix an old problem where motion photo features are converted into videos when shared via WhatsApp.
Now it will become motion photo with proper support.
There is no official date for a full rollout. WhatsApp has not communicated on when the feature will be out of beta.
