Hyderabad Nightlife to Become ₹26,000-Crore Economy by 2031

Hyderabad Nightlife to Become ₹26,000-Crore Economy by 2031

Hyderabad Nightlife: The city is drafting special nighttime zones and strengthening policing, along with a clear governance model. Consequently, the state government promises to make evenings secure and safe for residents. With the right stimulus, Hyderabad’s Night Time Economy (NTE) is slated to touch ₹26,011 crore in seven years. Moreover, estimates suggest that Hyderabad’s NTE will reach ₹8,500 crore by 2025, reflecting a strong compound annual growth rate of 20.4%.

In addition, experts project that the boost to nightlife will generate between 2.1 lakh and 2.4 lakh new jobs by 2031. The sectors expected to create these opportunities include retail, entertainment, transportation and mobility, hospitality, security, and municipal infrastructure. Essentially, activities and businesses that operate between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. define the NTE. Since the service sector forms the backbone of the economy, ensuring women’s safety remains an especially vital priority.

Mumbai generated nearly seven lakh jobs through small reforms and recorded a 22% rise in NTE over the last five years. Hyderabad currently contributes 45–50% of Telangana’s gross state product, and planners anticipate NTE will account for 2.9–3.1% by 2031. Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan told the press that the Night Time Economy will help transform Hyderabad into a global city on par with London, New York, and Berlin. He emphasized that regulation and governance at night will play a crucial role in the city’s development.

Ranjan assured that Hyderabad’s NTE will remain safe and welcoming. He said authorities will strengthen nighttime policing to ensure women’s safety and accessibility. Police chiefs, along with planning and administrative wings, are already holding discussions to implement a secure and well-regulated nightlife in Telangana’s capital.

Night Zones in Hyderabad:

The government has identified Gachibowli, Jubilee Hills, Madhapur, Tank Bund, and Charminar as Hyderabad’s night zones. Planners believe that with police firmly in place, businesses in these areas can function without special nighttime licenses. Ranjan said the NTE aims to extend economic activity into traditional hours to boost employment, tourism, infrastructure use, and quality of life.

Officials plan to improve last-mile connectivity to make nighttime access more widespread. In the first phase, they will expand Telangana State Road Transport Corporation services and Hyderabad Metro routes to run until 2 a.m. They also intend to partner with ride-hailing companies such as Ola and Uber, while setting up geo-tagged pick-up and drop points within the night zones.

The state can roll out the new NTE within a year. In the first three months, authorities will allow alcohol-serving outlets in areas like Jubilee Hills and Hitech City, anchored around five-star hotels. They will also launch weekend-only non-alcoholic pilots in Charminar, Gachibowli, and Madhapur. In the last six months, the government will extend nightlife activities to weekdays across all selected localities. Sources said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will soon announce the nightlife rollout.
