TikTok Recruitment: Government sources have emphasized that TikTok is still prohibited in India, but the company has begun hiring for a few positions at its Gurgaon location.
Recruitment for two roles at TikTok India’s Gurgaon office is now open. Jobs for “Content Moderator (Bengali Speaker) Trust and Safety” and “Wellbeing Partnership and Operations Lead, Trust and Safety” have been listed by the organization on LinkedIn.
The hiring follows the reopening of the TikTok India website a few weeks ago, which raised hopes that the app’s prohibition had been lifted by the Indian authorities.
Reports that TikTok might be available in India have been refuted by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, which stated recently that “The Government of India has not issued any unblocking order for TikTok. Any such statement or news is false and misleading.” Government sources have not confirmed any change in TikTok’s status, and the app is still not available on the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.

TikTok Ban in India:
In June 2020, the Indian government banned 59 mobile applications, including TikTok, which is owned by ByteDance, a company based in China. WeChat and UC Browser were among the other prohibited apps. The government expressed worries that these applications might negatively impact India’s public order, security, and sovereignty.
The restriction was imposed in the wake of the 2020 confrontations in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh, which escalated tensions between China and India. Before the IT ministry published the official order, the move was supported by Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister at the time, and approved by Ajay Bhalla, the Union Home Secretary.
The prohibited apps were allegedly sending user data, including location data, to servers in China, according to officials. Some applications, such as those for selfie cameras and beauty, were also reported to have offensive material. There were an estimated 200 million TikTok users in India prior to the ban. Particularly in relation to 5G networking equipment, India and other nations have expressed concerns about Chinese-made hardware and software, including possible backdoors.
