Now You Can Transcribe Calls On Old Pixel Phones With No Internet

Google has launched the Pixel 10 series with Android 16. One new feature is called “Take a Message.” Now, this feature is being extended to older Pixel phones. It automatically transcribes call recordings on missed calls. Users rave about its ease of use and privacy protections.

What is ‘Take a Message’?

The feature records and transcribes missed calls, with transcriptions appearing in the Phone app. Users see the transcriptions in the Recents tab. Google protects its users’ data by keeping it on-device, so no internet access will compromise your conversations with Take a Message. It will filter spam calls automatically.

Which Phones Get It?

The feature is being rolled out on Pixel 4 and newer devices. Users in the US, UK, Ireland, and Australia have it. Some Pixel 9 users have it already, and Pixel 8 users and others will get it soon. The rollout will occur in different regions of the world later in the year.

How to Turn on the Feature

You must have the latest version of the Phone app. Open the Phone app on a Pixel phone. Tap the three dots to open settings. Find the “Take a Message” option to navigate to it. Tap to turn it on. The feature will start working immediately.

Using It with Pixel Watch

Pixel Watch users can enable it as well, but you need Pixel 6 or newer paired to it. Go to the Phone app settings of the Pixel Watch. Find the “Take a Message option and toggle it on. It integrates well with your watch.

Why This Feature Is Particularly Great

This feature transcribes calls with no internet connection. All transcriptions are for the user only, which means we have privacy. Users only have transcriptions on their devices as spam and other calls do not clutter the Recents tab. It is easy to use and safe.

Benefits for Android Users

This feature improves older Pixel phones. It brings the functionality of the Pixel 10 with smart technology to you. When you miss calls, it is easier to manage when you get transcription. It provides improvement in organizational skills. This is all free to devices that are eligible.

Availability, Rollout and Future.

As of now, it is limited to selected regions. From a source we spoke to, Google is looking to roll out to more areas. Pixel 4 and above qualify for the update. Regularly check your Phone app for these features. Maybe not everyone will receive the update right away as sometimes updates come gradually.

How It Maintains Privacy

Google transcribes, but they are all stored on your phone. It is not stored on the server or online. This means there is less chance of leaking private conversations to the outside world. Users now control what data the call function or call amount stores. As an example, the last few missed calls will simply not show up before the last few recents in transcriptions, and that’s good. There are safeguards for privacy, which builds trust with the technology.

For Pixel users it is a game changer

Pixel phones now include much more new functionality. It simplifies time saving functionality and improved performance. Used phones feel like new with new functionality and upgraded calling features. You can use the technology today of the Pixel 10.
