Meta Launches Ray-Ban Display Glasses with Gesture Control and HUD

Meta unveiled its Ray-Ban Display smart glasses at the Meta Connect event. These smart glasses are an upgrade over the 2023 Ray-Ban Meta Glasses. They are powered by new technology, designed for the optimum user experience. Let’s get into the specs, price and availability.


 

Price and Availability

Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses will retail for $799 (instead of ₹70,100). This price includes the glasses as well as the Meta Neural Band. The Pilot style glasses come in black and sand colors. On September 30, the glasses will be available in the US via Best Buy, LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut and Ray-Ban stores. Sales will occur in Canada, France, Italy and the UK next year. There is currently no word on a launch in India.


 

Key Features

The glasses come with 12MP ultra-wide camera on the left frame. The camera captures photos of 3024×4032 resolution and 1080p videos at 30fps. The glasses have 32GB storage capacity, allowing for roughly 1,000 photos or 100 30-second videos.

 

There is also a microphone and custom open-ear speakers included. Meanwhile, there is a heads-up display (HUD) on the right lens that allows for augmented reality (AR).

 

AR Display

The AR display is housed under the right lens. The display supports 600×600 resolution, 5,000 nits brightness and 90Hz refresh. The display can switch to a 30Hz refresh rate when viewing content. The display have a field of view of about 20-degrees. According to Meta, only 2% light enters the eyes.

 

Design and Comfort

Weighing in at just 69 grams, these glasses feature a classic Wayfarer frame and transition lenses. The transition lenses change from clear indoor use to sunglasses for outdoor wear; the transition lenses also support prescriptions in the range of -4.00 to +4.00. The lightweight design is crafted for comfort when wearing it for extended use.

 

Gesture Control with Neural Band

The Meta Neural Band is a gesture control wrist band that utilizes surface electromyography (sEMG) to sense the user’s finger and wrist movements and then translate those movements into electrical signals that are expected to control various tasks like scrolling, clicking, and other similar actions.

 

This foldable band features an IPX7 rating which is splash resistant, and holds an impressive 18-hour battery life.

 

Interactive Features

The augmented reality (AR) display would show visuals based on audio responses. The user can read texts, and make video calls via Whats App or Messenger.

 

It may also use the heads-up display (HUD) as a viewfinder for the cameras with 3X zoom. In the HUD display, it may also assist pedestrians for navigation, live translations as well as captions for accessibility.
