On September 9, 2025, Apple introduced the iPhone 17 series, iPhone Air, Apple Watch Series 11, and AirPods Pro 3. During the event dubbed “Awe Dropping,” the devices were unveiled, and worldwide sales began (including in India) on September 19.
Early reviews indicate that there is a positive reception for the iPhone 17 series model. However, there is concern about a camera issue in iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro. Apple has said that they have a software fix for it in the works.
Tech journalist Henry Casey reported on an issue with the camera in an iPhone Air, during his review of it for CNN Underscored. While taking pictures of a concert using iPhone Air, Casey experienced that one in ten of his shots would either have areas that were blacked out or would show strange boxes. White squiggles sometimes appeared to be broke.
These instances happen when bright LED displays are directly facing the camera. Apple noted that these events occur in extreme rare lighting conditions, and stated that a fix is underway for a future update. Apple did not provide any timeframe for when we can expect the fix to occur.
As for pricing of the iPhone 17 series in India, the starting price is ₹82,900 for the iPhone 17. The thin iPhone Air retails for ₹74,900, while the iPhone 17 Pro starts at ₹1,39,900. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is priced at ₹1,59,900.
Apple, along with resellers, are offering cashback of as much as ₹6,000, via select bank cards. This cashback offer is similar to the promotions at time of launch for the previous generation of this device.
The sale of the iPhone 17 series started in India today. In Mumbai, the Apple BKC store led the celebrations. Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, shared a photo of a store on X.
The photo displayed colorful decorations with a large hoarding of the iPhone 17 Pro, and an iPhone Air was displayed next to it. What transpired after that generated multiple impacts online, as there was a massive amount of excitement.
The store opened at 7:00 am. Customers were lined up to enter the store, while many more had arrived hours earlier to grab an iPhone 17, Pro Max, or Air. According to Tim Cook, the staff greeted the first customers with plenty of cheers and clapping.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is the hot model people want. Fans are excited about the A19 Pro chip, superior camera systems, and new design.
However, the iPhone Air hasn’t generated as much excitement. The smaller battery life and higher entry price point didn’t garner favorable reactions among some buyers.
The launch of the iPhone 17 Pro Max is regarded as a significant accomplishment for Apple in India. Apple BKC and Saket stores are notable retail presence for the iPhone in the country. India is important to Apple’s strategy throughout the globe.
Now, yes today, there was lots of color and decoration, there were lines outside the store, and then Tim Cook was present in support of the event and company. This reflects the importance of India to Apple.
