The iPhone 17 series generates substantial excitement across the globe. Many Apple customers wait in large lines outside of the company’s retail stores on September 19. After a brief absence, Xiaomi, Apple’s rival in the Chinese market has launched its flagship Xiaomi 17 series in anticipation of the iPhone 17 series. The flagship series will officially appear on September 30. However, pre-bookings in China are available now. The 17 series will debut in three models – Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.
As a starting point, let’s look at some of the features and specifications for the 17 series lift-off.
Xiaomi completely skips the 16 series. The 17 series acts as a refresh of the lineup from last year’s Xiaomi 15 series. The entire lineup will utilize the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. A visible enhancement will obviously be in the camera, which will be tuned by Leica. Xiaomi introduced the Xiaomi Pad 8 series simultaneously.
Xiaomi showcases a unique feature – Magic Back Screen. The rear back camera of the device now has a secondary display positioned just behind it. While the exterior of the camera shows users the time, call alerts, a camera viewfinder, and music being played, the secondary display serves as a menu that allows for more in-depth widgets. The rear display allows interaction with users and performs tasks quickly, making for fun interactions in daily use.
With top specs and cameras, the series utilizes ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensors. The devices operate on HyperOS 3 (based on Android 16). Leaks have confirmed exciting upgrades throughout the models.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro has a 6.3-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 1.5K and a 120Hz refresh rate. The device has a scalable battery of 6,300mAh, supports 100W wired fast charging, and 50W wireless fast charging. The three-camera setup consists of three 50MP lenses: a main lens, a telephoto lens, and an ultra-wide lens. The primary sensor has an f/1.67 aperture that is capable of producing sharp images. The telephoto lens has 5x optical zoom. Furthermore, the phone has also achieved IP69 waterproof and dustproof ratings. This phone can easily withstand a long immersion underwater.
The basic model of the Xiaomi 17 is offered with a 6.3-inch 1.5K LTPO OLED display. It has a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling. A 7,000mAh battery is included to allow for a longer use time. The device offers 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The three-camera setup also consists of three 50M cameras (main, telephoto lens, ultra-wide lens). It meets the IP68 and IP69 standards as well. You can be confident to be shielded from the elements.
Xiaomi plans to target the buyers of the iPhone 17 directly since it has skipped numbering altogether. They will have the same price points for the base models that they do for the iPhone models. For example, the Guangzhou price will still start around CNY 4,499 for the base model, like they did on the Xiaomi 15. The global launch will come later this year. These phones bring together power, cameras, and better battery life. It seems highly likely that Xiaomi is trying to directly compete and making a statement against Apple. This launch will shake up the smartphone market quickly. Tech enthusiasts will keep their eyes on this development now. Xiaomi continues to promise exciting new advances in both design and technology. You should get ready to get the full launch soon.
