Samsung Galaxy Ring Swells on User’s Finger, Leads to Hospitalisation

Samsung Galaxy Ring Swells on User’s Finger, Leads to Hospitalisation

A shocking incident involving the Samsung Galaxy Ring has raised concerns over safety. A technology influencer went to the hospital due to the battery in his smart ring swelling.

The Terrifying Experience

Daniel Rotar, a tech YouTuber, experienced something frightening with his Samsung Galaxy Ring that he shared on X. The battery began to swell around his finger, which was very painful. Rotar reported that he could not remove the ring. He had posted: “It hurts, and I can’t take it off.” Images were posted showing the ring, swollen, and very alarming.

This was occurring during the earlier part of his trip, just before he got onto a flight. He ended up going to the hospital as a result. He claimed he would never wear a smart ring again.

Galaxy Ring’s Popularity is Quickly Rising

Samsung launched the Galaxy Ring in India in October of 2024. It is a smart health-tracking device, and users have found it visually appealing and functional. The ring caught on quickly and was popular with tech users.

This alarming incident with Rotar raises serious issues about the safety of the Galaxy Ring, and the incident may give potential buyers pause associated with purchasing a smart ring.

Removal of the Ring

The swelling of Rotar’s ring prevented him from boarding his flight. Airport security staff sent him to the local emergency room. The doctor used ice followed by a surgery lubricant in order to remove the swollen ring.

Initially, the doctor did advise against using icy water and soap, which made Rotar’s finger more swollen. The swelling increased in size and pain. Once removed, the inner side of the ring appeared deformed. It was starting to peel away from the case, which was disturbing.

What Caused the Swelling?

Rotar theorized potential causes in one of his X replies. The warm weather of Hawaii may have caused the battery to swell. Additionally, the ring may have been exposed to saltwater. Rotar had traveled via two flights just prior to this.

The ring had previously shown some battery life problems before the incident. A faulty battery may ultimately be the cause of the swelling. Ultimately it is likely that all of these factors combined to trigger the swelling.

A Cautionary Tale for Smart Ring Users

Rotar’s experience serves as an uncommon but serious warning. Smart rings can be useful and helpful, but they are not risk-free. Battery issues may arise with any smart device unexpectedly.

Manufacturers have a responsibility in ensuring devices are safe to use. Users should be aware of abnormal behavior of devices. Rotar’s story is a cautionary tale, and is bound to raise concerns about reliability.

Going Forward with Care

This event, of course, can negatively impact the public’s opinion of the Samsung Galaxy Ring. This event certainly shows that buyers may think twice before purchasing a smart ring. Rotar’s encounter shows that technology and/or accessories can fail, unexpectedly. He generously shared his experience to warn others.

The moment may come where Samsung would be required to fully investigate this matter. Battery safety is a serious issue in gaining the trust of users. Rotar’s final decision to steer clear of smart rings is completely justified.
