Clean Your AC with Just One Click In Minutes: Here’s How It Works

You can clean your AC with one remote button. Many modern AC models offer this self-cleaning feature. If your AC has this option, you should use it before winter arrives. This prevents problems when you restart it next summer.

Why You Should Clean Your AC Before Winter

October is already here, and the winter is almost upon us. A lot of people will switch off their AC for a long time. The result of this is that both dust and dirt find their way inside the machine.

This dirt is the reason for the malfunction of the AC when you want to use it again in summer. Hence cleaning your AC before winter has become very important.

What Is AC Self-Cleaning?

The self-cleaning feature does the internal cleaning of the AC with only one click. There is a self-cleaning function in the advanced AC models. At least that is what the internal part of the cleaning is, while you have to do the filters manually.

Manual or remote control can help you get to the self-cleaning option. You can also use the smartphone if you have a smart AC. See if one of these terms fits the button you are looking for: “Auto Clean,” “Self Clean,” or “iClean”. Different brands might use different names.

Step 1: Coil Frosting Phase

The self-cleaning period is usually around 30 minutes. It depends on the capacity of the AC rack though. It might take longer for a big unit.

Start the self-cleaning function and invoke it on the remote control. The compressor will be activated to start the coil frosting phase. The coil is covered with a thin layer of ice.

This ice layer attracts the dust particles and the biofilm that might be on or near the coil. The sounds you hear might be part of the process – nothing to worry about!

Step 2: Defrost Rinse

At this point, the compressor is turned off automatically by the AC system. The ice that is about to thaw has become very thin. The water which is melting now is taking all the dust and dirt along the drain pipe with it.

You may hear the sounds of melting and see the vapor during this phase. What looks like smoke is not smoke; it is the vapor of the water from the ice which is melting.

Step 3: High-Speed Drying

After that, the indoor fan unit will be operating on the maximum speed. The purpose of this step is that the coil shall be completely dry. Dryness is necessary if moisture is going to cause mold and bad odor growth.

It is the last part of the process that will keep your AC fresh and clean while the winter break is on.

Advanced Self-Cleaning Features

Elite air conditioners have several advanced cleaning capabilities. They sometimes add ionization, low heat elements, or UV-C LEDs to the cleaning methods. These aids do not only remove the dirt deeply but also they completely clean the product giving a more thorough clean.
