It is possible to view links and media on WhatsApp without the sender knowing you did so. You don’t have to turn off read receipts, simply utilize the built-in information feature of the chat.
First open the chat that you want to view on your phone. Next, click on the contact’s profile icon. This will open the ‘Contact Info Screen’. Now simply select the ‘Media, Links, and Docs’ option. This will show you everyone’s content from the chat, sorted accordingly. Select ‘Links’ to find what you want. You can open and read the link right here. The sender will not know you’ve seen the link. You can even view photos and documents in this area.
You have to have your auto-download media setting turned on. Once you have the setting enabled, it will allow you to view photos secretly. If the auto-lead feature is turned off, it’s possible the previous step won’t work. The media may not be displayed. You can see this in the WhatsApp ‘Storage and Data’ setting.
WhatsApp only counts a ‘read’ when you open the chat. The ‘Contact Info’ portion is a separate viewer for you. You can think of it like a private ‘gallery’ to view things that were shared. Your access remains completely unknown to the sender, making this a great way to check something discreetly.
