No More Phones for Directions: Amazon’s Delivery Agents Get AI Glasses

No More Phones for Directions: Amazon’s Delivery Agents Get AI Glasses

Amazon has rolled out new smart glasses for its delivery personnel. The smart glasses include artificial intelligence. The purpose of the glasses is to improve the delivery experience for both associates and customers. The smart glasses function as an assistant. Whoever is wearing them will see important information projected in front of them.

How the Glasses Will Assist Drivers

The smart glasses power on automatically when the driver parks their delivery vehicle. The heads-up display will show relevant delivery information. The smart glasses will provide turn-by-turn navigation or geographic directions. The smart glasses will also utilize advanced geospatial technology to give continual updates on route accuracy and location.

Advanced Scanning & Safety Features

The smart glasses are equipped with multiple cameras to scan the environment for online hazards on the road. The delivery associate just has to scan the package’s barcode, and the package code will display on the smart glasses along with the delivery address. Delivery confirmation will display immediately on the glasses. This means delivery drivers will no longer have to look down at their cell phones approximately every 2-3 seconds.

Supportive Hardware and Accessibility

Delivery drivers can attach a distinct controller to their vest. This controller houses operational controls and a swappable battery. It also includes an emergency button for safety. The smart glasses support prescription or transitional lenses. They automatically adjust to different lighting conditions.

Looking Ahead for Future Technology

Future iterations will include even more capabilities, such as the ability to detect defects in packages in real-time. The smart glasses will notify associates of erroneously directed delivery addresses, and warn of potential hazards like low light. This approach aims to prevent errors and enhance safety for all.
