Sports: Recently Shreyas Iyer was injured in the Sydney ODI against Australia, that injury forced to be admitted to hospital, doctors said that he escaped death because of on ground medical assistance. His injury reminded us that sportsmen are risking their lives for their country. Let’s look at the dilemma involved in risking your life for a game.
Glorification of sport from the inside
Usually in sports there is a statement saying “No pain, No gain”. Coaches, fitness trainers use it all the time to motivate players, this is the mentality a player is trained throughout his life. He will carry the same philosophy until the end of his life.
This can be considered as glorification of sport from inside the structure. Sport is taken too seriously sometimes it makes players forget they are dealing with their bodies.

What really happens to their bodies
Sports injuries are not just broken bones and bruised egos, they can be life changing decisions. According to medical studies of sports, contact sports like football, rugby and boxing lead to thousands of concussions each year. Even non-contact sports like gymnastics and long distance running can cause chronic joint and muscle damage.
Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy(CTE) can be caused by repeated head traumas. It is a condition linked to memory loss, depression. Cardiac arrests, stress fractures and torn alignments are very common at amateur level too.
The Ethical Dilemma
All said and done, people choose sports and they keep playing the game, the adrenaline rush it gives them makes them satisfied with their lives. Sportsmen are so involved in their games it makes them forget the noise around them and feel every second of their breath. The Spirit involved in playing the sport can be very addictive.
