Unclaimed Bank Deposits Online:
Have you ever opened a bank account years ago and completely forgotten about it? Or maybe your family member’s account still has money that was never withdrawn? The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is now making it easier for people to claim their unclaimed or inactive bank deposits.
According to RBI rules, if an account remains inactive for more than two years or a deposit is unclaimed for over 10 years, banks transfer that money to the Depositor Education and Awareness (DEA) Fund managed by the RBI. However, this does not mean the money is lost. Account holders or their legal heirs can claim it anytime. There is no time limit for claiming such funds.
RBI reports that crores of rupees across India are lying unclaimed in old or inactive accounts. To simplify recovery, RBI has introduced a user-friendly process where depositors can easily check and claim their money online.
How to claim your unclaimed deposits:
1. Visit the official RBI website: [https://www.rbi.org.in/Scripts/DepositorEducation.aspx](https://www.rbi.org.in/Scripts/DepositorEducation.aspx)
2. Search by your name or your family member’s name. You will see details of the bank and deposit amount, if available.
3. Fill in the claim form at any nearby bank branch (not necessarily the original bank).
4. Provide valid KYC proof such as Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, Driving Licence, or Passport.
5. If you are a legal heir, you’ll also need documents like a death certificate and succession proof.
After verification, the bank will transfer the full amount from the RBI’s DEA Fund to your account without any additional charges.
RBI has also announced special help camps across districts from October to December, where citizens can get direct support to claim their funds.
So, if you think you or your family might have old bank deposits left unclaimed, now is the best time to check and get your money back.
