Bhutan Car Smuggling Case: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has launched a case into the smuggling of luxury cars from Bhutan, with a preliminary inquiry carried out by the Customs Prevention Department. Earlier, the customs probed in 17 locations across Kerala and unearthed a massive operation that illegally imported high-end vehicles with forged documents.
According to reports, the ED has served notices to various individuals including actor Amit Chakkalakkal. Summoning the actor Dulquer Salmaan would seem to be part of this investigation.
The ED probe delves into violations of whether vehicles allegedly sourced from Bhutan would come on to India using fake registration introduction and import documents, thus skipping import duties. Further, the investigation unearths the money trail involved in trans-shipment which implicates middlemen, dealers and vehicle purchasers.
According to sources, there has been a racket of middlemen who would sell luxury cars across borders to unsuspecting customers at a later stage. The agency is examining whether the informants invested such profits in laundering through shell companies or cash deals.
Dulquer Salmaan, after all, was not named the accused, but the star’s name was believed to have come up during the probe regarding vehicle ownership records. Officials say Dulquer will be summoned to clarify a routine procedure.
This incident turns into a significant development for the Bhutan car smuggling case, where the financial reckoning by ED would potentially uncover links of deeper degree between celebrities, traders, and import networks transcending state and national borders.
