Coined after the prize-winning G.R. Indugopan book, Vilaayath Buddha is a Malayalam film terminology that has grown to be rather well-known throughout years. First conceived by Sachy, the late director, posthumously it was given to his aide Jayan Nambiar. At last, on November 21, this much-awaited film is coming out; the trailer premiere in Kochi has reawakened audience interest and many queries.

Audience Interest: Double Mohan is like Pushpa?

Most frequently asked questions among viewers are whether the character ‘Double Mohan’ from Prithviraj’s movie is in any way linked to or has influenced Allu Arjun’s famous Telugu blockbuster Pushpa’s character. Indirect allusions to Pushpa in the teaser of the movie charged the assumptions even further. When the trailer was out, Prithviraj was asked straight away: “Has Pushpa inspired your character or did the team make additional efforts to steer clear of likeness?”

That reaction has now gone viral.

“Sachy told me this narrative before Pushpa even released”

Prithviraj made clear that the idea of Vilaayath Buddha had been debated well before Pushpa came out.

“When Sachy first told this story to me, Pushpa’s first section had yet to be out.” We had never expected a Telugu movie about sandalwood smuggling to debut and grow to be so popular nationally. By the time Vilaayath Buddha was finished; Pushpa’s parts were out, and the character had become a blockbuster. We just noted that.

He said that those not familiar with the original book might draw comparable conclusions on the teaser or trailer. Still, the recognition stops at that point.

“No Similarities in Plot or Character”

Prithviraj noted that Double Mohan and Pushpa have no similarities in terms of characterization and hence in the narrative.

Writing, concept, or character construction have nothing in common. He said, “The material itself is entirely different, therefore I never had to try avoiding similarities.”

Meanwhile, the newly released teaser has gotten very ecstatic comments, therefore raising expectations for the movie’s debut.
