Premante Movie Review: Is Priyadarshi’s Rom-Com Worth Theatre Ticket or OTT Watch?

Premante Movie Review: Is Priyadarshi’s Rom-Com Worth Theatre Ticket or OTT Watch?

Premante Movie Review: With Balagam doing well, audiences gained more confidence in the script choices made by Priyadarshi. However, the lack of ambience in his last few outings meant that Premante would be a significant film for him both in image and versatility in genres. Lighthearted rom-com is going to be directed and made by Priyadarshi, with emotional undertones in the pairing with Anandhi in the marriage, secrets, and second chances theme. Whether or not Premante holds up to the fans’ expectation of providing something new in the romantic genre or will merely be another film remains to be seen.

Story

Madhu Sudan (Priyadarshi) has a heavy loan at home, and he rejects the arrangements made for marriage till accidentally meeting with Ramya (Anandhi) at a wedding. Luckily, their parents have their wedding fixed, but some misunderstandings cropped in and forced them to stay apart. Matters get complicated when Ramya discovers something in Madhu. That’s when Asha Mary (Suma Kanakala) a police officer barges into their lives, and it goes into a very emotional track. The story moves further explaining how Madhu and Ramya face their secrets and learn to retire and redefine their married lives.

Analysis

The core of the story is trying to convey a post-marriage love story kept around issues of individuals: economic desperation. It has bright patches in which a couple of these scenes do signify a sort of emotion with the primary pair. But that’s really where the film falls apart. The screenplay lacks clarity. Justifications of essential situations were really bad. Many under plots, especially regarding various thefts, feel completely illogical and just intrude into the emotional tone of the narrative.

Expectations for these comic episodes involving Suma, Hyper Aadi, and Auto Ram Prasad to provide relief completely missed the mark while testing their patience. Music and cinematography are also not supportive in terms of lifting this flick. Hence, despite the mainly honest performances by Priyadarshi and Anandhi, the film still remains disjointed.

Plus Points

Interesting angle of love post marriage

A few emotive scenes had been shared by the lead pair

First half had some good moments

Minus Points

Absurd choices in narrative

Weak second half

Poor comedy track

Flat music and technical execution

Final Verdict

Premante strikes as an attempt at mixing romance, drama, and light comedy, but in the end ends up being bogged down by weak writing married to pacing which varies greatly in speed.

Rating: 1/5 An ambitious romcom that collapses under insufficient logic, pallid humour, and inconsistent storytelling.
