Gmail Will Soon Show Photos and Attachments Without Opening Emails

Gmail is introducing a helpful new feature. It will show image previews in notifications. Android users will see this update soon. You will not need to open the email anymore. This makes checking attachments much faster.

Current System vs New Update

The current system shows limited information. You see the sender’s name and subject. A small text preview is also visible. The new update adds visual previews. It will display attached photos directly. This provides more context instantly.

Key Changes in Notifications

The notification visual format will be enhanced. There will now be an icon of a paper clip for attachments, which will be next to the subject header to identify that a file is attached. Also, instead of showing the sender’s profile image, a thumbnail of the image that is attached will be shown.

Expanded View for Better Clarity

Also, there is a feature that allows you to expand notifications for additional information. When you do this, you will see a larger rectangle preview with an emphasis on the attachment as opposed to the text. It allows you to view the image clearly.

Handling Multiple Attachments

If your notifications include multiple images, the attachment feature will still work. You will see a single main preview with a thumbnail, as well as a series of smaller thumbnails of the other images attached. This allows you to see at once what is included.

Non-Image File Previews

In addition to image files, attached documents can also be previewed. Whereas a PDF or other type of document shows a label pill or tag that shows the name of the attached file in a larger font, this pill/tag makes it easy for you to quickly identify the type of document that has been attached.
