Andrea Singing illuminati: Once more at the center of media uproar over social media, Andrea Jeremiah, the actor-singer, first joined the sector as a playback vocalist in line with her ambition to act. Having started her career in 2005, Andrea has now given voice to several famous composers including Harris Jayaraj, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Devi Sri Prasad, and G.V. Prakash Kumar and starred in Hindi, Tamil, and Malayalam movies.
Though reactions toward it were anything but good, a video clip of Andrea singing “Illuminati,” a song from Fahadh Faasil’s Aavesham, gained public attention on social media in recent years.
Andrea has performed a well-known song originally written by Sushin Shyam and sung by Dubsy with lyrics by Vinayak Sasikumar in the video now. But her interpretation produced very different accents and a completely different vocal approach, causing trolls to come down.
As people throughout Kerala and elsewhere made fun of the performance, memes with satirical captions engulfed social media sites. While some said her diction felt ambiguous, others said it did not have the impact as the original version did.
To stoke the flames, there was yet another video of Andrea trying her luck at the same track that followed shortly. Titles such “You again…” and “Andrea Illuminati 2.0” only increased the mocking and scorn aimed at the actor.
This event has sparked a major debate on playback singers acting on stage accompanied by live accompaniment. Many on social media have said that a few studio singers aren’t superior live singers for previously well-known songs. Some charged Andrea of “butchering” a well-known song in an effort to style it one way when the music dictating the tone did not match such treatment.
Andrea curiously co-stars on a previous screen with Fahadh Faasil, the actor in Aavesham. Andrea’s Malayalam film path started with Annayum Rasoolum, where the pair had shared their screen space.
With no indications of vanishing anytime soon, the discussion around Andrea’s performance is here to persist.
