Revolver Rita Review: Rita is back on stage in the big dark crime comedy Revolver Rita by JK Chandru, starring Keerthy Suresh. It has attracted a lot of attention because of its bold tone, its quirky protagonist and the fact that Keerthy claims it to be one of her most experimental roles. After obtaining a U/A certificate and wasting all that time in planning much-delayed release, there are already so many expectations riding on it. But will it be edgy refreshing entertainer as promised?
It’s about an everyday person shifting to chaos when she happens to bump into a gangster who broke into her house and suddenly, by sheer panic kills him. That one moment of panic snowballs into a series of unpredictable events involving local criminals, suspicious cops, and the messy consequences of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
The one-day narrative keeps the suspense tight while allowing for the character development of Rita. She goes through perils, confusion, and guilt. The story is a blend of dark humor and crime twist offering the audience a unique mix of absurdity and thrill.
Keerthy Suresh stands in a role demanding humour, grit, and vulnerability simultaneously. The bend of eyes keeps the story intact, as does the flexible comic timing and emotional efficiency in itself. The direction opts for pulp style visual, vibrant colours, and caricature characters retaining the genre of pure dark comedy as described by this actor.
However, at times, the screenplay falters. Some sequences are too much, a comment made some time back by early reviewers. With some over-the-top humour, the swerve between suspense and slapstick doesn’t seem to fall in place for an average viewer.
