The Girlfriend Official OTT Date:
Rashmika Mandanna’s latest film The Girlfriend, directed by Rahul Ravindran, received a warm response when it released in theatres earlier this month. Many viewers appreciated Rashmika’s emotional performance and the way the story was presented on screen. For those who missed watching it in cinemas, the movie is now ready for its digital release.
On Sunday, Netflix India officially announced that The Girlfriend will start streaming on December 5. The movie will be available in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, making it easy for audiences across different states to enjoy it. Netflix shared the film’s poster along with a short introduction of Rashmika’s character, Bhooma Devi, who is shown as an MA Literature student.
The film stars Rashmika Mandanna and Dheekshith Shetty in the lead roles. The supporting cast includes Anu Emmanuel, Rao Ramesh, and Rohini. The story begins as a dreamy love tale, but slowly reveals a darker side. Dheekshith’s character becomes increasingly aggressive, and the relationship turns toxic. This shift in tone is one of the reasons why the film received strong word-of-mouth, as many viewers said the story felt real and emotional.
Rashmika also shared her feelings about the film on Instagram. She wrote that when director Rahul Ravindran first narrated the script, she became emotional because many moments in the story felt familiar and personal. She said the character “Bhooma is the most special to me”, as she could relate to her deeply. Rashmika added that she understood herself better while playing this role and hoped the audience would connect to the film the same way the team felt while making it.
The Girlfriend performed well at the box office, helped by positive reviews and audience appreciation. With its release on Netflix, the film is expected to reach an even bigger audience.
