Dhurandhar Review: As big as they come, Dhurandhar arrived with massive expectations as this is Ranveer Singh’s biggest release after a series of failures that were supposed to place him back in the commercial zone. Aggressive promotions, stylish trailers, and strong pre-release buzz are all put on this movie directed as a high-voltage action-thriller, with a cast often said to be very well balanced, including Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal. Does Dhurandhar live up to all that hype?
A chaotic power tussle involving political corruption, corporate crime, and a secret task-force operation are what Dhurandhar is all about. Ranveer plays an intense officer with a under-gone moral dilemma brought into a larger conspiracy.
The film does not go purely the hero-villain way, choosing a multi-character route where each antagonist gets a personality of his own. This layered structure works in the buildup of mystery, tension, and a few hard-hitting confrontations in the first half.
The second half delves into revenge and deep, personal stakes —simple at its core but this movie takes pride in presenting it in a stylish ride.
Ranveer Singh has delivered one of his strongest performances over the years — restrained, gritty, and, by his usual standards, almost antique. Sanjay Dutt and Akshaye Khanna, of course, could be the stars of any narrative they choose to work on, and here they are terrific choices.
The action sequences-highly stylized and well designed-especially were tubular fighting, followed by the chase in Delhi. Sound score was heart-stopping yet consistent with a rough handsome edge to enhance mass appeal.
However, the screenplay is the culprit here and there; the buildup is impressive but predictable payout. Formulaic and underwhelming through familiar emotional flashbacks, the second half ultimately stretches on for too long with confrontations that cheaply leach away the drama. At 2 hr 45 min, it’s just tiring.
