Flight Tickets Cheaper:
A surprising comparison on social media has started a big discussion among users. People are amazed to see that in some cases, a flight journey is cheaper than a cab ride. This topic became viral after a Delhi user shared screenshots showing the huge difference between flight charges and cab fares.
A user named Aarensh posted a screenshot showing that a flight ticket from Delhi to Leh, which is around 925 km, cost only ₹1,540. At the same time, an Uber cab ride from Gurugram to Greater Noida, a distance of just 70 km, showed a fare of ₹1,952.61.
This means a flight covering 925 km cost almost ₹400 less than a cab covering only 70 km. This unusual comparison quickly went viral on X (Twitter), with thousands of people reacting to it.
Some users explained that the flight price was low because of off-season discounts. During winter, Leh faces freezing temperatures and harsh weather conditions. This reduces the number of travellers, so airlines like SpiceJet offer cheaper tickets. Normally, flights to Leh cost between ₹10,000 and ₹25,000.
Cab fares in the NCR region (Delhi–Gurugram–Noida) are known to increase sharply due to:
Peak-hour surge pricing (2x or 3x multiplier)
Heavy traffic
Toll charges
Driver incentives
High fuel costs
Because of these reasons, app-based cab rides often become extremely expensive, even for short distances.
Public Reaction
Netizens had mixed responses. One user asked, “Is this progress or a joke?” Another said, “Urban commuting is becoming a luxury.” Many people pointed out that this comparison shows the huge price gap in India’s transportation system. Even though surge pricing helps cab companies balance demand and supply, it is becoming a burden for daily travellers.
This incident clearly shows that transportation costs in India vary widely. Sometimes, long-distance flights become cheaper than short city rides. The viral post also renewed public anger about high cab fares in metro cities.
