Fake Emails Offering e PAN:
The Income Tax Department has issued a strong warning to the public about a new online scam. Cyber criminals are sending fake emails to people, saying that they can download their e-PAN card by clicking on a link. These emails look real, but they are actually made to cheat people and steal their personal and bank details.
In recent months, cyber crimes have increased very fast across the country. Fraudsters are using smart tricks to trap innocent people. They are targeting important documents like PAN cards because almost everyone needs them for banking, taxes, and online services. When people receive such emails, they feel scared and rush to click on the link without checking if it is real.
The Income Tax Department has clearly said that it never asks for personal details through email, SMS, or phone calls. It also does not send unknown links to download PAN cards. Many of the fake emails carry dangerous attachments. If people click on them, a virus can enter their mobile phone or computer. This can lead to stealing of passwords, bank details, and even full control of the device.
The department has advised everyone to keep their antivirus, anti-spyware, and firewall software updated at all times. These tools help block harmful files and protect devices from hacking. People are also warned not to share OTPs, bank details, Aadhaar numbers, or PAN numbers with anyone through messages or calls.
If anyone receives a suspicious email claiming to be from the Income Tax Department, they should immediately forward it to [webmanager@incometax.gov.in](mailto:webmanager@incometax.gov.in). They can also report such cyber incidents to CERT-In at [incident@cert-in.org.in](mailto:incident@cert-in.org.in). Reporting helps the government track fraudsters and stop similar scams.
The department has once again asked people to stay alert while using the internet. One careless click can lead to a big financial loss. By being careful and aware, people can protect themselves and their hard-earned money from online scams.
