Munawar Faruqui, the popular comedian and reality TV star, recently made his acting debut in the web series First Copy that is currently streaming on Amazon MX Player. The series, which also stars Krystle D’Souza and Ashi Singh, marks a new chapter in Faruqui’s career, and it’s safe to say his debut has turned heads. But what made his appearance even more interesting was his interaction with fans, especially regarding his co-star, the beloved Hyderabadi actor Mast Ali, known for his iconic role as Saleem Pheku in the cult classic The Angrez.
During a fan interaction, when a fan from Hyderabad asked Munawar how he felt about working with Saleem Pheku, the comedian couldn’t stop gushing. “He is too good, Bhai. Mein pehle din jab mila unse, meine bola mein Angrez ka bahaut bada fan hoon,” Munawar recalled. The admiration Munawar has for Mast Ali is clear, and he went on to share a funny anecdote about their time on set.
Munawar opened up about how working alongside Mast Ali was a unique experience. “Jab scene hota tha, woh mujhe Saleem Pheku nazar aate the. Mathlab aage he nahi bad paata tha,” he laughed, referring to how Mast Ali’s iconic role made it hard for him to focus on his own performance. In fact, one scene required Munawar to have an argument with Mast Ali, but the comedian admitted that he struggled. “Mujhe unmein sirf Saleem Pheku hi nazar aata tha,” he said, recalling how he couldn’t help but be in awe of the actor.
