Aadhaar Photocopies Ban: In an important decision, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has implemented a new regulation requiring organizations, such as hotels and event planners, to register with the authority if they plan to use Aadhaar to confirm the identification of their patrons. The action is intended to stop customers’ Aadhaar cards from being misused. There were many incidents where it was discovered that certain organizations were photocopying customers’ Aadhaar cards and keeping them in hard copy. These, hence, have the potential to be abused. Notably, the current Aadhaar Act is also violated by similar actions.

New Rules By UIDAI to Come Soon:
The CEO of UIDAI stated that the new regulation will provide these organizations access to a new technology, according to the media report. They will be able to authenticate people using the technology by linking to the newly developed Aadhaar app or by scanning a QR code.

“The new rule has been approved by the authority and will be notified soon,” he said in a statement. It will require offline verification-seeking organizations, such as hotels and event planners, to register. The goal is to deter Aadhaar verification on paper.

When the most recent verification system takes effect, it will also guarantee that unintended delays brought on by failures in the intermediary servers connected to the central Aadhaar database are avoided. As a result, services will run more smoothly, guaranteeing a notable enhancement in the user experience.

Why New Rules by UIDAI going to be implemented?
The authority will provide organizations with access to an API (application programming interface) if they want offline verification. They can utilize this to update their Aadhaar verification system. The CEO of UIDAI continued, “The ease of verification will enhance offline verification without the use of paper while maintaining user privacy and any risk of their Aadhaar data getting leaked for misuse.” A new app that would allow app-to-app verification without requiring a connection to the central Aadhaar database server for each verification request is presently undergoing beta testing by UIDAI.
