Heavy rainfall has been reported for several days by citizens across Tamil Nadu, disrupting a flood in low-lying areas with the localities. Chennai and surrounding districts had some of the heaviest rains as the cyclonic circulation hovered close to the coastline. Emergency teams were deployed for waterlogging control and the safety of the general public, especially in vulnerable areas.
On December 3, several districts declared a holiday for primary and secondary schools along with colleges as unsafe travel conditions were prevailing. These included:

Officials stated that heavy overnight rainfall had made several areas inaccessible and the step of shutting down was taken as a precaution. Chennai Collector Rashmi Siddharth Zagade said that safety of the public was the priority since so many areas of the city were under stagnant water and blocked roads.
School administration has not issued any official order regarding the closure on Thursday, December 4. However, the continuous downpour leaves the possibility that institutions in several districts might remain shut for tomorrow.
Parents, children, and educators are advised to remain alert to developments from district administrations. Schools are also expected to send out messages concerning a final decision on closure via official channels such as WhatsApp groups, notices, and local media houses.
