December Bank Holidays: Full List of Days Banks Will Be Closed

December Bank Holidays:

The month of December has many bank holidays across different states in India. Knowing these dates in advance helps people plan their important financial work. Even though most people now use online banking, some tasks still require a visit to the bank. For this reason, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) releases a detailed list of holidays every month. According to the latest information, banks will be closed for 18 days in December, including national holidays, state holidays, and weekly holidays.

December Bank Holidays:

Some holidays are the same for the whole country, while others apply only to specific states. Below is a simple explanation of the important bank holidays in December.

On 1 December, Itanagar and Kohima observe Statehood Day, so banks in these areas remain closed. On 3 December, Panaji observes the Feast of Saint Francis Xavier, which is a local holiday. Weekly holidays like 7, 14, 21, and 28 December (Sundays) and 13 and 27 December (Second and Fourth Saturdays) apply across India.

There are also regional festivals and remembrance days. In Shillong, banks remain closed on 12 December for Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma’s death anniversary, and again on 18 December for U Soso Tham’s death anniversary.

Goa celebrates Goa Liberation Day on 19 December, during which banks in Panaji stay closed. The Losung/Namsung Festival in Gangtok brings holidays on 20 and 22 December.

Christmas-related holidays are observed across many states. 25 December is a national holiday for Christmas. But places like Aizawl, Kohima, and Shillong also have special Christmas celebrations on 24 and 26 December. In Nagaland, 27 December is marked as Christmas Local Celebration.

Toward the end of the month, 30 December is a holiday in Shillong for Wu Qiang Nangba’s death anniversary, and 31 December is marked as a New Year special celebration in Aizawl and Imphal.

Even on these holidays, essential services like mobile banking, NEFT, RTGS, online payments, and ATM services continue to work. Experts advise customers to check holiday lists before planning any bank visits so that their financial work goes smoothly.
