Several Indian states have announced a school holiday on Friday, 28 November 2025, due to bad weather conditions, pollution, and local administrative decisions. Students and parents across the country are closely watching updates as sudden changes in climate and safety concerns continue to affect regular school schedules.

The main reason for these closures is continuous rainfall in some regions along with weather alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). In states like Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, heavy rain has caused waterlogging and traffic problems. District authorities decided to keep schools closed to ensure the safety of children. Areas around Chennai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, and nearby towns are among the most affected.

In parts of Andhra Pradesh, especially coastal districts such as Nellore and Tirupati, steady rainfall has also led to temporary school holidays. Officials are monitoring the situation and may extend the closure if the weather worsens.

Delhi-NCR is facing a different problem. The air quality index (AQI) has reached very poor to severe levels. To reduce children’s exposure to pollution, many schools are functioning in hybrid mode, where students attend both online and offline classes. Some schools in Noida and Ghaziabad have allowed younger students to stay at home and attend online sessions.

In Uttar Pradesh, a few districts have declared holidays due to local weather changes and civic arrangements. However, most schools have resumed normal operations after earlier breaks.

Maharashtra and Gujarat have announced limited closures in certain districts due to regional events and weather-related concerns. Mumbai suburbs and the Konkan belt have seen short-term closures, while major cities like Ahmedabad and Surat remain open.

In Karnataka, coastal regions such as Udupi and Mangaluru are observing precautionary holidays due to rainfall alerts. However, schools in Bengaluru continue to function normally.

West Bengal and Odisha have also seen a few district-level closures because of local festivals and administrative preparations. These are not statewide holidays and only apply to specific areas.

Punjab and Haryana have not announced any major shutdown, although some schools adjusted their calendars following previous holidays.

The school holiday on 28 November 2025 varies from state to state. While some regions have completely closed schools, others are running with modified schedules. Students and parents are advised to follow official school notices and district announcements for the latest and most accurate information.
