Students across the country are waiting to know whether schools will remain open or closed on 5 December 2025. Different states are reviewing the situation due to ongoing strikes, heavy rainfall warnings, and local administrative decisions. While some states have already announced holidays, others will take a final call based on weather updates and district reports.

The only confirmed holiday so far is from Maharashtra. All schools in the state will stay closed on December 5 because teachers and principals have called for a major strike. They are protesting against certain rules introduced by the education department. Since a large number of educators are expected to participate, state authorities have declared a complete closure for one day to avoid disruption.

In Tamil Nadu, the situation remains uncertain. The state has been experiencing heavy rainfall after Cyclone Ditwah. Schools in Chennai and Tiruvallur were already shut on December 4 due to unsafe weather conditions. Officials will review the rain forecast before announcing any decision for December 5. If rain continues, more districts may declare holidays for student safety.

Andhra Pradesh has not announced a statewide holiday. However, the final decision will be taken by district collectors, especially in regions facing heavy rainfall in the southern coastal belt. If weather conditions worsen, local administrations may announce school closures for the day.

In Kerala, there is no uniform order for the entire state. Districts that are experiencing continuous rain such as Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam (selected areas), Pathanamthitta, Idukki, and Kottayam are expected to remain closed. Each district collector will issue a separate notice depending on the local situation.

Apart from weather-related updates, Kerala has also declared holidays on December 9 and December 11, 2025 for Local Body Elections. Schools, colleges, government offices, and many private establishments will remain closed on these days to allow smooth voting.

Since holiday decisions vary from state to state, students and parents are advised to follow official announcements from their district administration or school authorities. Regular updates from reliable sources will help avoid confusion and ensure safety during uncertain weather conditions.
