Home Made Moisturiser:
Winter brings cool winds, low temperatures, and dry air. No matter which part of India you live in, the skin often becomes rough because the air loses moisture. Dry weather removes the natural oils from the skin, leaving it dull, flaky, and sometimes itchy. While shops offer many winter creams, a growing number of people now prefer natural, homemade moisturisers. These creams are gentle, safe, and made with ingredients easily available at home.
Natural moisturisers allow you to choose exactly what goes on your skin. Traditional Indian ingredients like ghee, coconut oil, aloe vera, almond oil, and shea butter are rich in vitamins and healthy fats. These ingredients repair the skin barrier and provide deep nourishment. Unlike many store-bought products that contain chemicals and strong fragrances, homemade moisturisers soothe dry skin without causing irritation.
A simple and effective winter cream can be made using shea butter, coconut oil, almond oil, beeswax, vitamin E, and a few drops of essential oil. Melt the solid ingredients, cool the mixture, and whip it until creamy. This moisturiser is perfect for harsh winters. Shea butter keeps the skin soft, almond oil improves elasticity, and beeswax helps lock in moisture for many hours.
For people who prefer a light, non-sticky option—common in coastal cities—a gel made with aloe vera, glycerin, rose water, and jojoba oil works well. Aloe vera hydrates the skin, while glycerin pulls moisture from the air. This gel keeps the skin fresh without feeling oily.
Ghee mixed with rose water is a simple remedy for very dry skin. It absorbs quickly and helps heal cracks on elbows, knees, and feet. Rose water adds a pleasant feel and light texture to the mixture.
Apply moisturiser on damp skin after bathing, store it properly, and patch-test before using. Drink enough water, avoid very hot showers, and choose mild cleansers. Homemade moisturisers, when used regularly, keep the skin soft and healthy throughout winter.
