Tere Ishk Mein Review: Dhanush found himself in the same cinematic universe with the same plotting tropes that made Raanjhanaa an iconic film in the directorial name of Aanand L. Rai. With Kriti Sanon as its heroine, the film promises to be a melodramatic affair about heavy, passion-driven love. The highly dramatic teaser and trailer have alluded to themes of heartbreak, obsession, and love taken to a destructive length. So, does this intense romantic drama deserve a theatrical as against an OTT watch?
The film tells the story of Shankar (played by Dhanush), whose entire life goes in disarray when his love affair with Mukti (Kriti Sanon) crumbles to dust. From a young romance amidst the colorful vibrancy of college days, the relationship slowly ripened into a traumatic separation. Mukti walked another path, leaving Shankar to bittersweet memories and emotional instability.
Shankar’s heart soon transformed into an obsession, pushing him towards decisions that could only be described as destructive. Scenes alternate between Mukti’s blessings being brutally interrupted by passionate speeches from Shankar and the obsession of “burning down Delhi” as the promise being made to her seem most toxic with a touch of insanity. The narrative is built upon the premise of how heartbreak can engulf a person; love can become a destructive weapon for them.
There are glimpses of redemption: Shankar becomes a pilot, suggesting a potential change; meanwhile, Mukti remains trapped in feelings of abandonment and emotional depletion. For Shankar and Mukti, this process is less about finding love again than squaring up to the consequences of love gone wrong.
Once again, Dhanush portrays the character that showcases vulnerability, rage, and emotional turbulence with finesse. Kriti Sanon really surprised with her mature portrayal of her character. Music by A.R. Rahman adds depth to the drama and gives the film its emotional weight.
This one was made for the theatres: the visual and emotional experience was enhanced with the big screen. Sadly, the heavy cinematic tone, dark in spirit, may be daunting for certain audiences, who would rather enjoy the experience back at home and to their own timing.

If you are unashamedly into watching darker love sagas, for sure it’s worth a theatre watch. For light-hearted audiance consider an OTT release instead.
