Rahul Ravindran About Kalamkaval: Actor-filmmaker Rahul Ravindran took to social media to praise Kalamkaval and its lead actor Mammootty. Rahul, who earlier this year directed the Telugu film The Girlfriend with Rashmika Mandanna in the lead, is an established face across Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi cinema. After watching Kalamkaval, he immediately went onto the internet to avow his love for Mammootty’s performance and the sincere execution of the movie.
Rahul, in heartfelt appreciation, called Mammootty “an incredible human, star, and producer”, adding, “Mammootty sir… how sir… what sir… why sir…? What a man, what a star, what a producer! Kalamkaval is a peach. What an arresting experience it was.” The message was shared widely, winning considerable traction from various fans across film industries.
Kalamkaval is a crime drama that marks the seventh production by Mammootty Kampany and the directorial debut of Jithin K Jose. Mammootty plays a striking antagonist contrasting with the hero played by Vinayakan. The unusual casting and Mammootty’s audacious performance turned into significant pre-release buzz for the film.
The film was released yesterday and has already begun garnering a positive response. There was a sharp increase in ticket demand, and theatres all across Kerala increased both showtime and number of screens by the evening. Industry trackers rated the film highly for the upcoming weekend, noting its release comes eight months after Mammootty’s last film in theatres, further heightening the anticipation.
Kalamkaval is distributed across Kerala by Wayfarer Films. The script was co-written by Jithin K Jose and Jishnu Sreekumar. The film is given a U/A certificate and projects one of the most innovative performances of the late career of Mammootty.
Technical work was provided with support from cinematographer Faiz Siddik, music director Mujeeb Majeed, and editor Praveen Prabhakar, with producer George Sebastian providing executive management.
Rahul Ravindran’s appreciating post not only enhanced Kalamkaval’s visibility but also indicates that it is finding audiences and filmmakers who resonate with it beyond Kerala.
