iPhone Scam Alert: Hundreds of Phones Stop Working Together

iPhone Scam Alert: Hundreds of Phones Stop Working Together

A large iPhone scam has shocked Saharanpur. Over one hundred devices suddenly stopped working. Customers bought these iPhones from the same local shop. The shop is named Geetanjali Enterprises. It is located in Nehru Market. This incident highlights major risks with unauthorized sellers.

How the Scam Operated

The shop offered iPhones on easy finance. Many customers bought them using EMI plans. The phones worked for only three or four days. Then they suddenly reset and shut down. Customers could not turn them back on. They felt cheated and angry.

Police Complaint and Public Response

A significant number of concerned customers gathered together. They proceeded to file a complaint with Saharanpur Kotwali police station. Their complaint was about the shop owner selling refurbished phones, which were old devices, to customers as new. The police have assured them that action will be taken.

The Shop Owner’s Deception

The shop owner refused to take responsibility even after consumers had fully paid for the device. He demanded a repair fee of two to three thousand rupees. Other customers received wildly different responses from the owner, one stating that customers had to complete all EMIs first, and he would fix the identified faulty phones. Other customers had a temporary device reset but would only work for a few days.

How to Purchase a New iPhone Safely

Always buy from the official seller or authorized resellers. Apple currently has four official stores in India and customers can order directly from the Apple website. If you buy from an authorized reseller these are both safe and secure options. Popular e-commerce websites are typically reliable sellers. Stay away from unknown local shops providing massive discounts.

Essential Precautions for Customers

Always ensure you take a proper bill from the seller. You are responsible to double-check the bill and make sure it has the correct IMEI and model. A genuine bill allows you to access Apple service centers. Always verify the IMEI number before buying. You can check the “About” section in Settings. Confirm the warranty status and activation date. Also, check the battery health information. This ensures you receive a brand new device.
